Radical Bicep – Afterimage

When ambient vibes meet warm synth-pop feels

Radical Bicep - AfterimageIt happens right from the very first second of ‘Afterimage’: I’m catapulted straight back to the 80s. The new track by American artist Radical Bicep immediately impresses with synth sounds that sound incredibly rich and warm. What really makes the song emotionally tangible for me, though, and fills it with a comforting warmth, is the soft vocals.

The artist herself describes her style as “ambient synthpop”. In my opinion, however, this ambient touch is woven in very subtly. It’s more in the overall vibe than in the sound structure itself. One minor downside for me is the guitar bridge, which annoys me a bit. Fortunately, though, it isn’t placed so prominently that I want to switch it off. Overall, a strong track for anyone who’s into New Wave and Synthwave with depth.
