Red Mecca – Spirit

A treat for the ears on dark club nights

What Red Mecca deliv­ers here with ‘Spirit’ is once again a really strong piece. The track is deeply rooted in the goth and synth pop scene, but at the same time man­ages to be a straight­for­ward, driv­ing elec­tron­ic song. I'm par­tic­u­larly taken with the crisp beats, while the synth melody from around 1:30 minutes onwards is a real treat for the ears.

The soft vocals give the whole thing that cer­tain dark pop factor and carry the mel­an­chol­ic lyr­ics per­fectly. I find the vari­ety through­out the song impress­ive; it cre­ates a lot of ten­sion and keeps things inter­est­ing. While their pre­de­cessor rolled over everything like a post punk freight train, Red Mecca let the light shine through the cracks here. A track ideal for head­phone immer­sion or sweaty nights in a dark club.
