Nordic noir meets synth pop
For me, ‘The Punisher’ by Covered In Snow is one of those tracks that slowly gets under your skin. The synth pop with a slight indie pop influence feels instantly familiar, yet it has that Nordic gloom that reminds me of good nights with old Northern Lite tracks. The tempo remains rather leisurely, far removed from the club sound – just my thing for the later hours when the city is already asleep.
The rhyming lyrics combine an almost childlike repetition with sharp images of violence, isolation and little personal demons. Lines like "Dead flowers scratch my hands" and "No, it's not all in my head" come across as honest and unadorned. Vocally, the track demonstrates a wide range – sometimes high, sometimes lower and edgier – which further enhances the melancholic undertone.
For me, ‘The Punisher’ is not a chart-topper, but a cleanly constructed, atmospheric song that works perfectly where synth pop and dark wave meet.

Lyrics of "Covered In Snow – The Punisher"
Lie lie
The kids are out tonight, night
He bleeds but it’s alright, right?
We’re just having fun
Playing with our guns guns
Turn this world around round
Let them know your kind, kind
Your dad he looks so mad
Dead flowers scratches my hands
And now the old demons are back
to play their own game I can’t win
No it’s not all in my head
Cure cure
The symptoms with the sore, sore
Let’s keep closing doors, doors
You are getting late
And no one’s gonna wait, wait
When no one’s awake wake
Behind your screen you rise rise
Your mom she looks so cold
Dead flowers scratches my hands
And now the old demons are back
to play their own game I can’t win
No it’s not all in my head
I only try to get high
To feel that the lower I sink
Now even the silence is loud
No it’s not all in my hands
The kid looks sad
He looks so sad
