Analogue roots, a modern beat
Right from the very first second, Red Cell’s fantastic new song completely captivates me. Sonically, the track reminds me fascinatingly of greats such as Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys, though enhanced by expressive, deep baritone vocals. “Collide and Combine” is extremely catchy, yet reveals a finely woven depth with every listen. Subtle effects and fresh sounds are hidden throughout, keeping the track consistently engaging.
In their “The Red Cell Manifesto”, the band emphatically stresses that they are not chasing any fixed style or specific era. Personally, however, I see absolutely nothing wrong with allowing formative influences to be so clearly felt in one’s own sound. To my ears, Red Cell simply sounds unique enough for that.
